What is the NExT or National Exit Test?
The National Exit Test (NExT) is a postgraduate medical exam for final-year MBBS students in India. It is a qualifying assessment and licensure exam for Indian healthcare practitioners who want to practice modern medicine. NExT is expected to replace the NEET PG and FMGE exams for admission to postgraduate medical courses in India. The NExT syllabus includes subjects covered in the first and second years of MBBS, and applied aspects of all subjects covered in the third year and final part 1 of MBBS. The exam focuses more on the practical and clinical part.
Despite promising benefits such as standardizing assessment and improving practical skills, it implementation has been delayed, with NEET PG India’s Gateway to postgraduate medical education.
