JEE Main 2024 Session 2 rescheduled due to clash with CBSE Class 12 board exams

JEE Main 2024 Session 2 rescheduled due to clash with CBSE Class 12 board exams

Outline

Due to a clash between the second session of JEE Main 2024 and the CBSE Class 12 board exams, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to modify the dates of the engineering entrance exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made changes to the dates for the Indian Institute of Technology’s Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) Main session 2. This decision comes after a clash was found between the IIT-JEE Main session 2 and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 examination dates.

The CBSE released the exam schedule for classes 10 and 12 on December 12, 2023, but it was later revised. NTA had announced the IIT-JEE dates in September of the previous year. Upon reviewing both schedules, it was noticed that the examination dates overlapped.

CBSE released a revised date sheet on January 4, introducing changes to the exam dates for some subjects of Class 10 and 12. Notably, the CBSE Class 12 Fashion Studies exam, originally scheduled for March 11, has been postponed to March 21. Additionally, the Class 10 Tibetan exam, initially set for March 4, has been rescheduled to February 23, and the Class 10 Retail exam, initially set for February 16, has been moved to February 28.

The CBSE Class 12 board examination is scheduled to conclude on April 2. However, the second session of JEE Main 2024 clashes with these board exams, scheduled between April 1 and April 15, as per the NTA circular.

In response to the clash, CBSE has requested NTA to reschedule the second session of JEE Main and urged parents to follow up with NTA. A CBSE spokesperson stated, “Parents are advised to follow up with NTA while the board will also send a request,” as reported by The Hindu.

CLASH OF EXAMINATION DATES

JEE Main 2024 Session 1 is scheduled to commence on January 24 and conclude on February 1. Meanwhile, the CBSE 12th examinations will commence on February 15 and continue until April 2. The final day of the Class 12 exams will include subjects such as Informatics Practice, Computer Science, and Information Technology. Subsequently, the second session of JEE Main is slated to take place from April 1 to April 15.

As per NTA Director General Subodh Singh, the initial schedule for the second session of JEE Main was planned from April 1 to April 15. However, it has been revised, and the second session of JEE Main is now rescheduled to take place after April 3. This adjustment comes in response to a reported request from CBSE, prompting NTA to modify the exam date.

Further, the Bihar Board 12th exams are scheduled to commence on February 1 and continue until February 12. Interestingly, the first session of JEE Main will also conclude on February 1. A potential challenge arises for students with the Class 12 Mathematics paper scheduled for February 2, particularly those with JEE Main exam centres in different cities.
