India has the largest numbers of engineers as well as the largest number of engineering education institutes and infrastructure in the world. As of 2021, India annually produces one million engineering graduates. India's technical education infrastructure includes 3500 engineering colleges, 3400 polytechnics and 200 schools of planning and architecture
Of the million engineering graduates produced every year, less than 5% of the engineers are produced by the pan-India national level autonomous institutes created by the acts of parliament, such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)[citation needed] The remaining over 90% of the engineering graduates are produced by the private and non-autonomous state level engineering education institutes which must obtain the approval from the regulatory authority All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to run such courses before they start admitting students.
Most common engineering branches in Undergraduate are Computer science and engineering, Electronics and Communication engineering, Electrical and electronic engineering, Mechanical engineering, Civil engineering and Chemical engineering.
Eligibility Criteria for B.E. Programmes
Students who are aspiring to become future engineers need to take science streams on board. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) are the mandatory subjects that students should have at the time of their 10+2 boards. Computer Science, Biology, and Geography are also important subjects for those who opt for Computer Science and Engineering, Biological Engineering, and Geological Engineering. Aspiring students who want to take up a Bachelor of Engineering and do a specialisation of their choice should complete their 10+2 education from a recognized board. Students need to score a minimum of 50 per cent marks in the boards but some universities also require 75 per cent marks in class 12th board examination. But the most important criterion is to get through the Joint Entrance Examination or other equivalent examination.
Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech
For admissions into B.Tech courses aspirants should have satisfied all universities' minimum cutoff criteria standards. Aspirants must ensure a minimum aggregate of 60% in their 10+2 exams. Additionally, they must pass the entrance exams with the required cutoff.
Given below are the general eligibility criteria for the B.Tech course in India.
Aspirants must have passed the 10+2 exam from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
They must also have secured a minimum aggregate mark of 60% in the above subjects combined.
Apart from 10+2 scores, aspirants must appear for standard entrance examinations like JEE Main, BITSAT, and other university-specific entrance exams for admissions.
